The Canter? Its all about confidence.

On the most perfect fall day (yesterday) I went out to the barn to work with my horses. I knew that I would ride Clyde for sure. Casper I wasn’t too sure about. My broken toe is still healing and I’m not quite confident with it yet. With Casper I want to fell physically 100%.

Teddy said that he was going to go out and watch with Nina and take some pictures (yay!).

Clyde is such a great horse. I took Clyde out to the front pasture and gave hima  thorough currying and brush down. I tested him and found him to be quite wormy so tomorrow I’m going to de worm them both, poor guy. Considering, he was just perfect under saddle.

First i took him onto the arena and we did some nice follow the leader and ‘put your nose on that’ then I taught him to trot with me when I run. He is very good at it but gets a little stuck when we have to go around corners. He ends up behind me. We are still working on that. I am sure that my signals are confusing him. I need to slow it down a it and be more encouraging. I’m excited to try to again.

I rode him and worked on some great collected trotting. He is just the best horse. As of this day I hadn’t cantered him yet in the arena. I have built it up in my mind that cantering has to out of control, but all of this collected trotting is building my confidence. then Tri came out and jumped on Clyde for a once around. She cantered him after just a  few laps. I screamed! Seeing her do that gave me so much confidence. He cantered so slowly. She was so calm. It was great. I got back up on him and asked for the canter. It was not pretty but he did go a few strides. I was definitely scared, but it shattered a major ceiling for me. Tomorrow when I go out I know I’ll canter with more confidence. I can’t wait.

Teddy and Nina did come out-Eureka! It was fun to see her out here with him. they were cute togther. i tried to explain to Teddy that having someone there makes it so much more fun. I was going to give him the example that while he loves to play golf, sometimes its just no fun to play on your own. Same with me and horses. I like to share them! And, I have more confidence to step out of the box when soemone is there to watch.

We put Nina up on Clyde for the first time 5 months old! Is she my little cowgirl?
