A Yesterday post: Fire at La Roo-puppy interrupted

Yesterday I went to my naturopathic Doctor: Dr. Karen Ball http://www.thesynergywellnesscenter.com/drkb/ who rocks! Looks like we are on the right path. She went down the list of symptoms that I had when I first came to her office and pretty much ticked them all off the list. The only remaining are eye fatigue and a bit of energy crashing. I am feeling amazingly better, especially in such short order. AND, I’m losing weight consistently, AND I stopped working out for the most part. I have NEVER in my life been able to loose weight this easily. Gee I wonder if it has anything to do with that big baddy: GLUTEN. Anyway, Dr. Ball tested me on a bunch of stuff and sent me home with a new kind of zinc and a digestive soother. The testing was so fun. I love kinesiology. It looks like hoodoo (I’m sure some -including my husband, would think it is) but it works for me.  As for my diet I’ve been including a bit of dry cheese here and there to good results and I’m planning to lower my meat intake…need to find some vegetable(non soy) protein.

So after the doc I met my Dad back at my house and we (me, Dad, and Nina, on her inaugural hunt) went mushroom hunting out by where I keep the horses(actual locale is top secret). The first of the season. I had found three chantrelles and my dad had  found 5, puppy was in the middle of the best day of his life and my Dad’s dreaded cell phone rang for the 10th time. This time he answered it. It was Tony calling to tell him the Restaurant was on fire. Nice! Dad was such a cool customer about it I thought surely he was joking or Tony was mistaken, so I just kept looking for forest gold. Dad looked at me and said,” um we gadda go”. Then I heard a few god-dammits under his breath. Then I new he was serious.  We raced back to the car threw puppy in the back, got Nina strapped in and headed to my house. I felt weird saying, OK I hope everything is OK! And that’s it, so I followed him there,

The firetruck was jackknifed on Carrol street but there was a party outside! Tony moved the afternoon private party out onto the deck and cooked from my folk’s house across the street. Tony is a Rock Star. They were having a good ole time. The closer I got to the door though I started to smell the fire. It’s weird, it was actually a really nice smell aside from the fact that it was my folks business that was frying. I hung out outside for awhile. I didn’t really want to see the damage.

Turns out that it was not as bad as I thought, or certainly could have been, but it was still a shock to see one whole wall torn down and flamed out. The fire was in the wall so the fire dept. had to break it open to  make sure all the flames were out. I painted that wall 11 years ago. That wall has seen many happy times, many great meals, and many hard tears from me. It was pretty emotional for me to see it destroyed. At the same time though, It’ll be a nice opportunity to spruce up the place. And it needs it! 11 years is a pretty long time. I took a perfect square of drywall with the paint intact. I’m hoping to make a painting out of it. Or an object d’art.  Oooh those rarely turn out!

So I went home, fed the horses, ran to the pharm to get more progesterone (thank god) and got home around 7:00. Nina was cranky after such a big day so I sat down to feed her and check mail. She conked right out. It was so sweet.

Teddy got home later and suggested we go out and use one of his Outback Steakhouse gift certificates he won after winning the Wall Mart Open (glamorous huh?No, really honey I’m super proud of you!) On the drive over Nina was pretty much saying,” You guys suck, i want to go back home.” By the time we got there we felt pretty bad and thought we should go home(this is the first time I felt like a selfish jerk parent) but she cheered up and had a great time throwing beer coasters on the floor and generally entertaining herself and charming us and the staff. Dinner was wonderful. They have a Gluten Free MENU! (who knew) I was impressed. The server was great as well. You go girl!

We came back home and hit the pillows hard!

Strange but good day! Oh, and sorry puppy, we’ll go back out for mushrooms again soon. You have unfinished business out there I know.

Weather: Perfect. Crisp and sunny.

Food: Picked at nuts and larabars most of the day, had some Romano with pesto, then KILLLER GF ribs and the Outback, and GF garlic mashed potatoes(a small indulgence).

Mood: Amazed and grateful.
